Avalon actively seeks sponsorship, individual and corporate, for the programs it provides to women in recovery from addiction and substance abuse.
The Peer Support Program is the heart of Avalon. Avalon is unique in that there are no other non-residential, peer support facilities available to women in recovery from addiction in Canada. Avalon offers resource and drop-in centres that are safe, gentle environments to meet other women who have been through similar situations. We have community resource information for medical and social assistance, alcohol and drug counseling, addiction treatment services, detox etc. We provide one on one peer support and group support meetings with our dedicated team of volunteers and staff . We also produce and distribute outreach brochures and newsletters for our local hospitals and community agencies.
Avalon’s Child-Minding Program enables Mothers to attend support groups and life skill workshops. We provide a separate, kid-friendly, interactive environment with staff members available to attend to the child’s needs while the Mother attend in-house support groups. Our safe and comfortable childcare rooms assure the Mother that her children are well looked after, and gives both Mother and child a much needed respite in their day. This enables a Mother to focus on her recovery, connect with other women, and build healthy networks of support. She is no longer alone. Without this service, many Mothers would not be able to attend support groups.
Our final, formal, program is for Health and Education. Avalon provides workshops and seminars which are designed for women in the 1st and 2nd stages of recovery. These workshops deal with nutrition, anger management, stress management, parenting, spirituality, and other basic life skills which are so important to women who are trying to reclaim their lives.
